What a great start to the season! 32 vans rode the trail to Wales, many of us taking the high scenic tracks over the mountains & through the woods. (The trail home was straight and easy - we know for next time!) |
| We had a very warm welcome from David Lloyd at The Oliver Jones Memorial Hall, and he and his wife Dot joined us on Saturday evening. The sun shone all weekend, summer at last?. |
| We had vans tucked away in corners and round the back of the building too! |
| Friday night, after settling in we danced the night away to DJ Dave and his Country Juke Box. Great stuff Dave. |
Saturday afternoon, Ruth & Bryan Parkin taught line and Partner dancing to an enthusiastic group.
I apologise for the quality of the pictures. I forgot my decent camera, and my cheap pocket sized snapper didn't like the lighting! |
Saturday night we enjoyed the songs of Mickey Page. A complete hush went over the hall when Mickey sang archipelago. (without music). What a great voice! |

Part of our table centres for the National Rally was on display, and we used it to highlight our raffle prizes. The raffle was drawn by our youngest visitor, Thomas.
On Sunday morning we held our EGM to approve our now audited accounts for last year. We also co-opted Jeanette Boyce onto the committee. Jeane will take the Rally Coordinators job, much to the relief of Jack our Chairman, who was finding it too much. Thank you Jeane.

doesn't he look great! |

Ruth & Bryan taught several new dances: 123 waltz, which was a lovely dance; Nice Work; Stupidville, and Drinking bone Boogie for partners. We also had a refresher on Crystal Chandeliers, which is another easy partner dance.
You can download the dance sheets on our Dance Steps Page.

The sun came out and the vans kept rollin' in. We had 24 vans from all over the country (Yorkshire, Kent, Sussex, Chilterns, NW Mids, as well as Anglia & E Mids) |
Thomas, his Brother Harry (with Mum Sharon & Dad Andy) were amongst our newest members. They went and bought a motor home after visiting our Dolywern rally with their family! Well done to them. Other new members were Robert and Beryl Dacombe-Jones & Brian & Joanne Leighton, Welcome. We hope to see you again soon. Friday night kicked off with our DJ Dave Pickford and the dulcet tones of Dave Whitmore. The dance floor was soon filled with keen dancers. |

On Saturday, members emerged from their vans with the sun. After visiting nearby Dereham by bus, most of the ralliers turned up for Sangria, wobbly coffee and dance lessons with Lesley. Dancers went over past lessons: 1,2,3 waltz, Barn Dance, Crystal Chandeliers. What keen bunch we had;- long after the lessons had finished, Malcolm Cave was spotted behind his van jigging with a dance steps sheet in his hand. Keep it up Malcolm, we need more men on the dance floor. |

| Saturday evening saw us listening and dancing to a very demure Vanessa; wearing a very fetching Indian outfit. Brilliant as always Vanessa! Our Trilogy was carried out by Brian Dilley, Andy and John Clark. It was the best one yet. Vanessa (as an Indian) turned her back on the flag. Indian tribes do not recognise the flag. Indeed they still believe that the Americans stole their lands. John Clark won the bottle of single malt whiskey in our bottle draw. - well done John, we will be visiting your van next rally! |
| Sunday dawned bright although had a chill to the wind. Some of us walked to Yaxham Mill for Sunday Lunch, which was said to be very nice. In the afternoon we were visited by James from the village, who is writing about village life. He took the black and white photos of us. James found us fascinating, and spent several hours talking to members about our "hobby". In the afternoon, we brushed up the lessons of the previous day, and Vanessa taught us "The Tush Push"! Our chaps certainly know how to wiggle! Dave & Vanessa then showed us all the steps to "Best of friends", so that we were all going in the same direction, and not doing the Okey-Cokey! Much better. Thank you Dave & Vanessa |
Sunday evening we were entertained by the great voice of Bruce's Country, singing many of the older Country songs, which had us all singing and dancing until the very end. We couldn't keep every one awake though. - Harry found it all just too much after a day out playing on his bike. Thank you to the anonymous person who paid for Bruce. Your generosity is much appreciated by the group. We will be booking Bruce again! |

| During the course of the weekend we celebrated 41 years of wedlock for John & his lovely wife Pat. Jack presented them with a rosette (nearest thing we had to a medal) and afterward we played D.I.V.O.R.C.E.! |

John McEvoy & Ann Lees, announced they were getting married on 23rd May. Congratulations to them. Dave played a lovely romantic song for them to dance to. |
The sun came out for the National Rally at Hendra which helped make it a great event. We had 11 vans rally with the Country and Western Group, which was great. |
Our new, improved Banner (the old one was our welcome sign!) was carried by Sarah Cleverly & Pat Clarke followed by Brian & Ann Dilley; They dressed for the occasion as we all did, and as you can see they did us proud!
On Party night, we had the theme of "Wagon Train" for our tables. We had our Wagon's which Brian Dilley made for us down the centre of the tables, with some small lanterns, lots of drink and a little bit of food! (We took the Wagons down after a while, so every one could see across & down the tables).
We dressed in prairie dresses or as cowboy/girl, and had our "Trilogy Flags" at the end of our table for a big splash of colour. |

We were pleased to welcome 3 new members to our group; Barry & Debbie Groom, Ray & Sue Everett, and James & Rose Beer.
On Friday morning we gathered for coffee outside our vans, and got to know each other as we had Sid & Josie Taylor, Roger & Val Burge and John & Lucie Sumnall-Campbell rallying with us for the first time. |
We were kept busy attending Groups conferences, the AGM and Members meeting, as well as the fun things like the dog show, where our dog Max won a rosette for 2nd place as "Most Handsome Dog". On Monday the Country & Western Group taught Partner & Line dancing to an enthusiastic group of dancers. Our thanks to Margaret Gratton who taught us "Stompin it out" & "Jailhouse Creole". Ruth & Bryan Parkin taught us 3 partner dances, "Rebel Strutt", "Crystal Chandeliers" & "Drinking Bone Boogie". Thank you Ruth & Bryan. It wasn't easy, as we had no microphone and had to compete with the noise from the Penny Arcade which was taking place along side us at the same time.
We also brushed up on "One step forward"; "Red hot Salsa" (at the insistence of Charlotte), "Stupidville" & "Ziggy" (danced to You are no Angel). We put most of them into practice on the dance floor over the course of the weekend. |
The Banner at the closing ceremony was carried by Ann & Brian Dilley.

Wednesday dawned bright and sunny as Jack, myself and Mel Harvey headed to Preston in Lancashire for our Country and Western rally. Brian & Ann Dilley were there before us, and we were glad we had arrived early as we needed to clean all the tables and chairs & sweep the floor before we started to decorate the hall. It was a good venue though, capable of taking many vans. We decided against using the kitchen area due to the four legged residents we discovered. We were given a great welcome by the owners and also by George and Mary, who acted as caretakers to the camping facilities. On asking George & Mary about buses to Garstang for a shopping trip the following day, George kindly offered to take us in his car. (Jack’s scooter included). |
| Friday turned much windier & cooler, as we waited anxiously for the first of the vans to arrive. We didn't have as many as we had hoped. Some had stayed in Cornwall for a holiday following the completion of the national at Hendra, and some had gone to the Stratford Motor home Show. The rest we think were put off by the bad weather forecast. We still had 32 vans though & enjoyed our rally. Jack had vertigo for the weekend, so we said that we really did need a vice chairman. Brian said no, he is happy doing what he does, and Mel said he couldn't’t commit at the moment, so we made Mel a badge that read “Deputy Dawg’sbody” which he wore all weekend. Brian was “Sheriff ”. Seriously though, If anyone is able to volunteer to become Vice Chairperson, we would appreciate it. We realise that you may not be able to get to all the rallies due to the geographical spread, but the AGM should be on your visit list. |

| Friday night started with Dave & his disco, followed by Bruce’s Country. and a great time was had by all. |

On Saturday afternoon, fortified with wobbly coffees, we took to the floor where Margaret Gratton taught us line & Partner dancing. Our trilogy in the evening was carried out by Brian Dilley, Ron Branson and David Healey. One of our favourite singers, Bob Oakley, entertained us in the evening. Our adventurous group of dancers filled the floor all night. We even had 4 couples dancing “the Sleazy Slide”! |

We also awarded 2 special prizes to Charlie and her friend Davina who arrived dressed as Cowgirls on the Friday, and were still dressed on Sunday. They did look good. Well done girls |

| TATTERSHALL, LINCOLNSHIRE |

26 vans hit the trail to Tattershall Village hall. We are amazed at how far members will travel:- 1 van from Northern Ireland ( admittedly en-route home from France but by a very round about route); 1 SWP; 1 Kent; 1 Anglia; 1 Chiltern; 1 Severn Valley; 1 Nene valley; 2 Lancashire; 3 Yorkshire as well as 15 East Midlands group. Our theme for the weekend was "Mexican". It was nice to see many of you making an effort. However, I think once again, Charlie & Davina were the best dressed. |
| Friday night kicked off with our DJ Dave Pickford and the great voice of Bruce's Country. Thank you to the anonymous person who paid for Bruce. - You must all like him a lot! The dance floor was soon filled with keen dancers. It seemed as though everyone didn't want the night to end, persuading Bruce to sing two more songs at the end of his act! It was Midnight before we got to bed! |
| Saturday dawned hot & sunny, (not that it matters when you have a fabulous hall for the weekend). Some members went and explored the castle & church, the later of which did a very nice afternoon tea. Dave Pickford ran Brian Dilley & myself to Coningsby to pay for our large fish & chip order, which Brian had organised. Thank you Dave & Brian. All, however, returned in time for Sangria, wobbly coffee & line dance lessons with David & Ann Billing who taught us "A Little Rumba"; "Ribbon of Highway"; "How Long", "Cowboy Strutt" and revised "1 step forward & 2 Steps back" Thank you both. After all that exercise we could look forward to supper with a clear conscience. |
| Brian, Charlie & Davina |
We started Saturday Evening with the remainder of the Sangria, and a Fish & Chip Supper, supplied & delivered by Chipmunks in Coningsby; they were delicious. During our supper (& the rest of the evening), Dave Pickford put some music on, and played some photos of past rallies on the wall. It drew quite a gathering of members watching pictures of themselves. Thank you Dave. After giving him time for his chips to settle, we were entertained by our own John McEvoy. John sang a lot of songs which we could put our newly learnt dances to, as well as his "Motorcaravanner's Song (Properly known as The Friendliest Club)," which he wrote, and to which we were able to dance "Ribbon of Highway". (John's song, can be heard on our Artist's page). We drew the raffle during the evening, with the help of Charlie, Davina, Thomas & Harry. Thank you to everyone who donated prizes. There were loads of them! Our "Mexican" Trilogy was dedicated to the 9 Soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan this week. Thank you to our flag bearers Brian, Andy and John; and to Charlie & Thomas who took part for the first time. It is nice that the young ones want to join in, especially at the serious part of our rally. |
Sunday morning came round too fast. Another hour in bed would have been nice! However, we had to vacate the premises by mid-day, so we soon got coffee morning under way. Sharon & Andy Carter won the quiz; Dave Pickford read out the answers to our motoring story, and kept dissolving into giggles as he did so! You were as entertaining as the quiz story Dave! We welcomed 11 first time visitors, and 2 new members, Charles & Joan Taylor.
Thank you to every one who helped clean and clear the hall. We really do appreciate the help. |

26 vans camped out together from our group. For some of us it was an opportunity to top up the "western" wardrobe; for others it was an extravaganza of entertainment, with displays by Lonestar, a western re-enactment group depicting scenes such as "The Gold Miner's Revenge"; "Gunfight at OK Corral"; & "Whiskey & Wild Women". American West performed traditional and modern Native American Indian dances, as well as demonstrating teepee construction, and living history. In the food court we were entertained by our very own Bob Oakley, as well as Clive John, who later sang as part of the Johnny Cash Tribute Roadshow, and The Original Backroom Boys, who played fiddle and guitar.

On the Saturday Country and Western members gathered to celebrate the 30th Wedding Anniversary of Elaine & Mike Greaves with Champagne & Orange juice. What a great start to the day! |
It was a good weekend, but very tiring. We had a positive response from the MCC recruiting stand. Brian Dilley dressed up each day & drew attention to us. – Our photo board was there too. Brian enjoyed himself, and it slowed down his spending, - although he did buy himself a Winchester!

| What a great venue! We had enough room to park the vans cowboy style in a circle. A railway track ran around the site, (no steam trains this weekend though,) & a small fishing lake. |
| The sun shone all weekend, encouraging members to enjoy their meals al fresco. Vanessa sang for us on Friday night, and for those who stayed until the end, practiced her guitar lessons. |
Saturday afternoon, we enjoyed wobbly coffee and 2nd birthday cake, made for us by Jean & Mike Boyce. Thank you to them both. It was delicious. |
Chairman Jack cutting our 2nd Birthday cake |
| Afterwards, thanks to Ruth & Bryan, we learnt Flying Scots, a lovely partner dance to the beautiful music of Voices of the Highlands. We also revised Crystal Chandeliers, and Stupidville. Thank you both for a great afternoon. |
| In the evening we were entertained by Dave Whitmore, whom we have heard before, such a lovely mellow voice. Dave sang the Trilogy for us, which made a nice change to our Elvis recording. It was very moving. Our flag bearers were Brian John and Andy. It was nice to see so many members wanting to take part in the trilogy, and also dressing "Western". Well done everyone. |
Ruth caused a stir. She arrived "dressed" for the evening in a nice long skirt. On a complaint that we couldn't see her feet, she whipped her skirt off! Thankfully she had a shorter one on underneath!
Sunday morning, and it was time for our AGM. Kate Jones represented Council of Management. Sadly David Gall, our treasurer since concept, resigned due to failing health. The good news is, David has agreed to remain on committee to guide us in the right direction. Many thanks to David, & his wife Kay for the help they have given us. Jeane Boyce resigned as Rally Bookings Coordinator to become our new treasurer. Thank you Jeane. We also welcomed back onto committee after a year in Korea, John McEvoy; and new committee members Andy Carter (Security); Sharon Carter; Mike Boyce (Security). - Their photos will appear on the committee page in due course. We have a larger committee than is probably normal, so that we have at least 5 members present at most, if not all rallies, in order to deal with any matter that need discussing. |

| BLUE GRASS at HENDRA |
Sadly, not many vans arrived at Hendra for the Cornish Blue grass Festival. Those who did make it enjoyed every minute.
There was a huge line up of artistes, performing during the day as well as Friday and Saturday nights. It was hard to choose where to go and who to see. |
Included in the band line-up were: The Foggy Hogtown Boys from Canada, Corrine West and Doug Cox from America and Canada, from Germany L.Bow Grease and from Spain Lluis Gomez and the Joan Pau Cumellas Band. Top UK bands included: New Essex Bluegrass Band, Doghouse Central, Down Trodden String Band, Buffalo Gals, Thunderbridge Bluegrass Boys and many others. |
The New Essex Bluegrass band lead the popular Sunday morning Gospel session. Anyone was welcome to play along and join in. It was very moving, and there was many people with tears in their eyes!
Following the Gospel session there was a slow band jam led by Gary Payne and friends. Again all were welcome to join in and play along with the band. This was followed by a “Pig Roast and Picking Session”.

| CHRISTMAS DINNER RALLY |
What a cracking time we had at the Christmas Dinner rally, in November. 93 vans braved the strong winds, rain & floods and made their way to Brean. We had large groups from N Wales & NW Mids; E Mids; Wales & South West Peninsula. Vans came from afar as Tipperary in Ireland, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Norfolk & Kent. |
| The sun came out on the Friday, the day of arrival, and your marshalls Bryan & Ruth Parkin; Brian Dilley; Mel Harvey; Jack Dempsey & Myself were sitting in the sun waiting the arrival of the vans. |
In the evening we made our way over to the Tavern Club, dressed in our finery. The theme for the evening was Tombstone & Crinoline. The Tavern laid on the mini bus, so we didn't get wet or blown away. Our artistes were the Lovely Vanessa, a great favourite of ours, who sang "Happy Birthday" to Joyce Hillsdon & Brian Clarke; plus Mickey Page. Both were very good; (Vanessa, the best we have ever heard her!). At the end of the evening, they sang a couple of duets, earning them a standing ovation. The dance floor was full all night. The "Big W" Country Western Club from Weston-Super-Mare performed a special Trilogy to finish the evening. |

We awoke after a very wild night, to a very breezy but dry Saturday morning. Some of went for a walk on the beach, and others went into Weston-Super-Mare or Burnham-on-Sea on the bus. In the afternoon, we had Partner dance classes, taught by Ruth & Bryan Parkin, to an enthusiastic group of dancers. Some of whom, were seen that evening, putting the lessons into practice. The dances we were taught were, Flying Scots (to the music Voices of the highlands), Enchant-cha (which is also a sequence dance); The Sleazy Slide; & Tempted. |
Our entertainment in the evening was from Harrison County. They were good, but targeted specific dances, many of which we did not know. The dress theme was 1st nation & Mountain men, and there were many of us who participated. |
The Sleazy Slide |
I was taken by surprise, at a presentation of a bouquet of yellow roses, and big lilies. they are much appreciated. However, I did have help when it was needed, (our marshalls, Brian Dilley; Bryan & Ruth Parkin; Mel Harvey; Mick Boyce; Our dance teachers Ruth & Bryan Parkin; Mel Harvey who sold bottle draw tickets and our treasurers past & Present, David Gall & Jeane Boyce; and of course my other half, your Chairman, Jack Dempsey) so on behalf of all the team, - Thank you! - I think our huge "non-political" committee is what helps make this group work so well. Thank you also to Sarah & Ian Cleverly who gave a financial Christmas gift to the group, and to Geoff Inham, who returned the cheque we gave him for over payment of his rally. Your generosity is really appreciated. It helps us pay for things like deposits for next year! |
| Many of us had an early night; still tired from the drive down and a late night on Friday. We wanted to be at our best for Christmas Lunch! |
| We had a quiet night, weather wise - The calm before the storm! - At 11.00am the first of the bus runs was making its way from the camp site to the Tavern for pre-dinner drinks. Dickies bar, where we were to eat, looked amazing. The staff had decorated it with 2 christmas trees, and other christmassy decorations; the tables were decorated with crackers and festive napkins. - they had worked very hard! (You will have to look at the photo gallery for these pictures as there are so many!) After a very brief "Grace", we made our way, table by table, to the carvery, for Roast Beef or Turkey, served with Roast Potatoes, new Potatoes, Brussels Sprouts, Cauliflower, Carrots, Stuffing Balls, Chipolata Sausages and of course Yorkshire pudding. This was followed by a choice of Sherry Trifle, Chocolate gateau, Christmas pudding or cheese & biscuits; and then coffee and mints. The bottle draw took place, and David Healey won a bottle of 12year old Malt whiskey, a bottle of Irish Cream Liqueur; a bottle of Babycham, a box of Thorntons Mints, a charity calendar, and a wooden tray. So its round to his van for Christmas! It was then time to work off the lunch at line dance lessons in the Tavern Bar. We had great fun, learning a lovely dance called Rita's Waltz, where we danced holding hands with our neighbour; Ziggy, 1,2,3 Waltz; Ride the River; Stupidville & 1976. |
It was soon time to return to our vans for a rest, shower and change of clothes before returning by mini bus to the Tavern for our final night of entertainment. We were treated to the enjoyable sounds of Steve Chase & Middy, who are known as "The Best of Friends" (They used to be The Dangerous Brothers). They sang a set each, before singing together for the final set. Steve also sang a remarkable rendition of Elvis Presley's Trilogy, which was once again performed by The "Big W" Country Western Club. |

| Steve Chase & Middy |
It was a very a very wild night, with heavy rain and gales, and most of us woke to ducks swimming around our pitches. All our "jobs" were done in the pouring rain, which stopped as we drove off site!
| I can honestly say, it was the best rally we have been to - so far. Everyone pulled together to make the work of your committee and marshalls easy, so Thank you to all of you who supported us. |
| I took so many photos, that is impossible to show them all here. There are more on our photos web page. |
| Below are some e mails I received on my return. |

Thanks for all your hard work in organising such an enjoyable event...and our special thanks to you both for making us so welcome. We have already printed a couple of photos, you were very quick to post them on the web site.
We had a fantastic time and made some new friends. The three evenings entertainment and Christmas meal were excellent and good value for money - we have already booked for the Christmas meeting at Brean next year.
We can't wait to see you all again at the forthcoming event at Dolywern.
Thanks again from your new members Roger & Veronica England
Hi Lesley
We would just like to say what an excellent weekend this was. We really enjoyed ourselves and look forward to seeing you next year
